Getting a steady image

TRIPOD VS FIG-RIG

Throughout the filming process I had the pleasure of being the leading camera and got the opportunity to work with both the tripod and Fig-rig .  Whilst reflecting on my filming and looking back at my footage it makes me wonder what was better ?

A Tripod is : a three-legged stand for supporting a camera or other apparatus.

Benefits of tripod
Steady image
easy to pan and tilt
gives seamless continuity

Disadvantages
Large
time consuming to set up and put away
Heavy
hard to travel with

Fig rig: Fig Rig is a camera stabilization device for smaller film
cameras/video cameras, designed by film director Mike Figgis. The Fig Rig is made commercially by the

 Manfrotto Group.

Benefit of fig rig
Small
Portable
steady grip
easier to set up
discrete filming

Disadvantages
unable to use light box or big technology on top of the camera
Image isn't very steady.
fig rig is too wide for doing shots where multiple people walk towards and past camera.

Reviewing the filming process I think I prefer to use the tripod,  the fig rig was mainly used but it was shaky, and as the light box couldn't fit on top of the camera a lot of the footage was dark.
