Genre and Conventions!

What is a teen film?
  • Teen films are (obviously) movies that are targeted to teenagers
  • They're are usually based on special events for teens, such as, coming of age, prom/parties (woop woop!), falling in love (awwh…), losing their virginity, rebelling teachers/parents (don't we all…), conflict with a sibling, rivalry between two people, not fitting in, discovering their sexuality, being stuck in between two worlds …. THE LIST IS ENDLESS!
Typical teen genre...
Well,you'll be able to find…
  • Horror (Ugh, the worst)
  • Comedy (The best type! Even though some of it is really REALLY crazy… xD)
  • Romance (Awwhh…. <3)
  • Action (Bam! Bam!)
  • Fantasy (Twilight zone... OoooOoooOoo)
  • Sci-Fi (Robots and all...)
  • Realist/Drama (... The serious ish.)
  • And many many more....
Examples of well known teen movies
  1. For HORROR we have...

...CARRIE(2013)

Young Chloe Grace Mortez plays the role of MISFIT perfectly....
AND the epic finale takes place in PROM (it always has to take place in a middle of a dance floor... Typical.)

2. Next, we have COMEDY!
EASY A (2010)

The movie takes place in yet ANOTHER high school (honestly)...
... Though I must say the whole idea of teenagers wanting to FIT IN is correct... But I don't think the majority wouldn't go THAT extreme (I know I wouldn't)

3. Next...
ACCORDING TO GRETA(2009)

A little more darker than the usual summer romance, but it's what makes the storyline so different (that and also it doesn't take place in a high school but the main character's grandparents house- Shocking!) and the relationship between Hilary Duff and Evan Ross' characters is soo cute!

4. Action now....
KICK ASS (2010)

It amazes me that no one before Aaron Johnson's character has actually tried to be a superhero (a.k.a. me =/)
I like the fact that it doesn't have a high school setting

5. Now for FANTASY it's...
THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES (2013)

Definitely, isn't the typical high school setting (it takes place in a weird shadow world, for goodness take) and I have to say Robert Sheehan makes the PERFECT Simon X_X
(The books are bloody awesome too!)

6. Moving onto Sci-Fi we look at...
ENDER'S GAME (2013)

Even though it's a movie that takes place in a spaceship (weird) it does involve a bunch of adults forcing responsibility onto a teen... -__- But I have to say Asa Butterfield's character handles pressure well...

7. And FINALLY... We have...
KiDULTHOOD (2006)

Noel Clarke's idea of teenage Londoners is rather dark as it's influenced by sex, drugs, violence, alcohol and other things (I swear I'm not influenced in either of these things.)
